According to some metaphysicians, semantics is no longer a part of philosophy. But to me this is like saying that according to librarians, books are no longer necessary. I have four books coming out in the next five years, and they're all on meaning and truth! I'm straddling the Continental divide.
I like what you're saying here. In a few years if we work together we should be able to break down the barriers between all disciplines. This way philosophy could become more like biology, social science and more!
When I was an undergraduate, we were taught in a rigid, outdated style and had to read old writers like Bertrand Russell, Frege and A.J. Ayer. We were told that this was part of some somehow discreet discipline called philosophy where all we do is think about difficult problems. I want to look forward to a new kind of philosophy where all the sciences get involved, and we realize that other kinds of minds and bodies are possible and indeed actual, and look into that. I tell my students that there is no such thing as philosophy, only their bodies - they should know that they can do absolutely anything.
